glock gen 4 discontinued

Glock Gen 4 Discontinued - As many of you who read my posts already know, I've always been an all-metal guy. I never felt inadequate about what I had: a Norc Commander designed 1911 rifle in .45 ACP, a Taurus 689 VR 6-gauge in .357 Magnum, and an Island M202 in .38 Special.

Now that I've lived in the suburbs for a little under a decade and work from home, I've never felt the need to get a little hidden, not-so-small thing made of plastic. I've always liked plastic guns.

But being a big blue gun lover and a guy who likes to try something new every now and then like all red blooded men, especially when something is being sold at a higher price, I recently became interested in the Gen 4 Glock 17.

My local LGS sells the Glock 17 Gen 3 for $400 and the Glock 17 Gen 4 for $450. Both are tempting offers - but even if I had the cash to spare, I'm not sure I'd prefer one over the other. If you're looking for an alternative, check out the Glock 17 vs. Glock 19.

Both are Glocks. They also have the same caliber chambers and look and feel the same except the latest version has the Gen 4 stamp on the page. But somehow I know that the stamp is not just for show.

I heard from a friend that the Gen 4 Glocks have a lot of changes from the past, but they definitely brought some unwelcome changes. The saying "you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs" is true here. But to what extent?

Today we are going to look at the most common problems associated with Gen 4 Glock pistols in general. If you're in the same situation as me and have been separated from previous generation Glocks and their Gen 4 counterparts, read on. You can find some information to help you decide if the Gen 4 monitor will fit your needs.

Glock released the Gen 4 in 2010. And the first thing people notice about the pistol, is that for the first time, they all carry the Gen4 name on the page. The company finally figured out how Glock owners code their pistols during the next generation upgrade.

All Gen 4 models now have a picture stamped with "Gen 4" next to the model number, making them easily distinguishable from previous Glock pistols.

Another innovation that differentiates the Gen 4 pistol from the previous generation Glock is the surface treatment. The company uses a new ferritic-nitrocarburizing salt bath process that Glock aficionados call melonite.

The Melonite process can result in a more durable finish compared to the previous Tenifer to better resist corrosion on the side. As for the appearance, there are some who don't like it - they say that the shade of black pistol Gen 4 used this time looks like a dark gray version of the material.

I guess it's a practical matter because I personally don't care much for the quality of the Glock. Come on, this is a Glock, not a traditional high-end 1911. And reliability and quality don't always go together. As long as the surface is anti-corruption, I do it all.

The Genesis 4 Glock also comes with a smaller grip compared to all previous pistols. The handle is designed to be small for two reasons: first, to give people with small hands a lot to buy; and two to allow for another new feature - support for swapping back cables.

Out of the box, the Glock comes with four adjustable rear grips that those with larger hands can choose to adjust the overall width and feel of the grip. Different people can choose to extend the grip (useful for those with larger hands) to make the grip more comfortable and look better.

In addition to the change in general grip dimensions, Gen 4 Glocks now have a sharper design, which is very different from the Gen 3 RTF (full frame with cloth), which has less interesting needle-like probes. This time, the Glock Gen 4 pistol uses a similar control type with a flat taper that provides a similar level of grip while being easier to hold and easier in the hand when shooting.

The original Gen 4 pistol has a large and prominent magazine release button on the grip. This is a direct answer to one of the most common questions Glock owners have about the small magazine release button on their previous pistols.

Not only does the magazine come out great for Gen 4 Glocks, but it's also designed to fit right in the box. Left-handed shooters can now easily place the button on the left side of the gun for use with the thumb of the left hand.

Along with the ambidextrous magazine release feature, Glock also designed magazines to have flaps on both sides. This allows the same magazines to work in the same gun regardless of whether the magazine release button is placed on the left or right side of the frame.

Speaking of magazines, Gen 4 pistols now come with three magazines in the box instead of the usual two (although Gen 4 pistols usually cost a little more than Gen 3, even after factoring in the cost of the extra magazine and rear).

Another subtle difference can be easily seen if you look closely at the stock of the Gen 3 and Gen 4 pistols. Its recoil rod is of a larger diameter and is not as pointed. The larger diameter guide line is part of a new recoil system designed to reduce wear on the line.

Glock pistols chambered in .40 S&W use a larger guide rod and spring like a Glock 9mm pistol. Since the first Glock was designed in advance of the 9mm, which is weaker than the .40 S&W, the recoil guide rod and recoil spring were compared to the 9mm recoil which is much weaker than the acceleration of the .40 S&W. This made the clothes faster to wear in Gen 3 Glocks chambered in .40 S&W.

A new steering rod with dual spring grips was designed to solve this problem. These recoil springs are very different from older springs because they are gripped (meaning the user doesn't have to worry about losing the spring when pulling the gun while still attached to the guide rod). The new spring connects the guide rod through the metal mouth at the end. The old spring doesn't have a metal fence - it just rides on the side of the guide, like standard 1911 recoil springs.

To accommodate the new sturdier recoil line, the Gen 4 line will have to have larger parts in the front. This means that a Gen 3 recoil pad will not fit a Gen 4 slide unless you use one of the adapter rings they sell on their website.

Since the profile of the grip and frame is now a little lighter, Glock had to re-design the interior design. When comparing parts of Gen 3 and Genesis 4, we noticed that there is a slight difference especially in the area where some of the slide walls are longer and longer.

Because of all the changes in shape and grip dimensions, three key components of the Gen 4 gun had to be slightly changed - for example, the size of the exit window, the trigger, and the ejector.

With all of these features come issues that early adopters of the Glock Gen 4 had to address, with three of the most common issues being directly related to changing the format and taking measurements. One of them is the Gen 4 heavy duty towing.

Since holding the Gen 4 is easy, it follows that the card and glass should also be easy. For small changes in the overall dimensions of the frame and bolt, it is necessary to use a small trigger group.

Disassembling the gun and inspecting the interior reveals that there is a large side discharge (this part should disable the trigger safety every time the trigger is pulled to fire the gun). It seems odd compared to the same unit on the Gen 3 engine.

Glock is said to have included that bit to make sure the firing pin stays centered when it hits the cartridge primer. If you've been looking for a Glock Gen 4 9mm or .40S&W-chambered Glock, you better hurry because the company is only going Gen 3 or 5 for those models. (Photo: Chris Eger/)

While the Georgia-based company will continue to make the Gen 3 for the California market, the Gen 4 is being phased out in some calibers in place of the new Gen 5 Glocks.
